Barbara Benson Memorial Scholarship
Named for long-time community supporter, TUSD school Board member and TACFA Board member, Barbara Benson, these annual scholarships are awarded to TUSD high school seniors who will further their arts education in a post-secondary institution.
TACFA will award up to six $1,500 scholarships to those graduating seniors who will pursue a career in the Visual or Performing Arts at a college, university, or other professional training program beginning in the Fall, 2016. Scholarship funds will be sent to the school once registration and active enrollment are confirmed.
Who may apply: High school seniors who reside in the attendance area for Beckman, Foothill, Hillview, or Tustin High Schools are eligible. WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO APPLY!
Requirements: Each nominee shall complete a written application together with a career goal statement along with a letter of recommendation no later than April 11, 2016. In addition, a portfolio consisting of work samples, presentation, demonstration, or a 3 -5 minute VIDEO emphasizing the candidate’s expertise in his or her chosen field is required at the interview portion. Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA to qualify. Candidates will be interviewed by the TACFA Scholarship committee in April or May and will be notified of the date, time, and place of the interview. The interview is INFORMAL and relaxed.
Procedure: TACFA will review all applications turned in by the due date. Late applications will not be considered. Remember, this is a two-step process:
1. Complete application (be sure to include all three sections) and return by Monday, April 11, 2016.
2. Be prepared to submit your portfolio at the time of your interview on campus in April or May, 2016. (You will be notified of the date, time and place.)
